Issuing an EMD for Seat Selection in Amadeus (IATA Issued Tickets Only)

How to Issue an EMD for Seat Selection on an IATA International Ticket only

Please note before you proceed:
  • The seat is only confirmed once the EMD is issued and associated. Requesting the seat alone does not hold it.
  • Applies to airlines that support automated EMD seat sales in Amadeus. If the airline doesn't, the seat must be bought by the customer directly on the airline's website via Manage Booking.
  • Seat selection and EMD issuance is not permitted with codeshare airlines.
  • For IATA EMDs only- you do not need to add a $3 seat selection fee to each seat price.
Step-by-step
  1. Retrieve the PNR
  • RTABC123
  • Confirm the e-ticket (FA line) is present for the passenger.
  1. Display the seat map
  • SM (for full itinerary) or SM2 (seat map for segment 2)
  • Chargeable seats are flagged on the map. Note the seat number and the price shown.
  1. Request the seat
  • Click the seat you want to select in the graphical seat map.
  1. Price the seat (create the TSM)
  • FXG — prices all chargeable services and creates a TSM
  • To price one service only: FXG/L6 (L6 = the seat SSR line number).
  1. Save the booking
  • ER (End and Retrieve). If you get warnings, read them
  • The seat status should move to KK/HK. It is not confirmed until the EMD is issued.
  1. Check the TSM
  • TQM — displays the TSM. Confirm passenger, segment, seat, amount and currency.
  • If the amount doesn't match what the customer paid, stop and check you have selected the correct seat
  1. Add the IV IATA card as the form of payment on the TSM
  • TMI/M1/FPCCEPXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/XXXX
  • Check with TQM that the FOP now shows on the TSM.
  1. Issue the EMD
  • TTM/M1/RT — issues the EMD for TSM 1 and redisplays the PNR.
  • TTM/RT issues all TSMs in the PNR. Only use this if every TSM should be issued.
  • The EMD auto-associates to the e-ticket coupon. A new FA line with the EMD number appears in the PNR.
Verify & record
  1. Display the EMD: EWD/L9 (L9 = the EMD's FA line) or EWD/EMD + 13-digit number. Check the coupon is associated (status A) to the correct ticket coupon and the FOP shows the IATA card.
  2. Check the seat: RTSTR — the seat should be HK/KK with no / unpaid flag.
  3. Update the booking: note the EMD number, seat and amount in Perseus and HubSpot.

Voids & Refunds

Voiding: an EMD can only be voided on the day of issue, before sales close, by the issuing office. Use TRDC/L9 (L9 = the EMD FA line). Voided EMD numbers can't be reused. After voiding, cancel the seat SSR so the airline releases it.

Refunds: most seat EMDs are non-refundable — check the airline's rules first. Where allowed, cancel the seat in the PNR first, then process with TRF/L9. For involuntary changes (schedule change, aircraft swap, seat lost), contact the airline
